The short version
Yenz is operated by Roundhouse Ads LLC, doing business as Clarion Apps ("Clarion Apps," "we," "us," or "our"). We built Yenz as the opposite of a data-hungry social app. We don't sell your data, we don't track you across the internet, we don't show ads, and we don't run behavioural analytics. The data we do collect is the minimum required to make the app function — and it's used only for that purpose.
What we do NOT collect
- No precise location tracking. Location tags on posts are optional and entered manually. We never read your device's GPS in the background.
- No advertising or tracking SDKs. No Facebook pixel, no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no ad networks. The app ships with zero third-party trackers.
- No behavioural profiling. We don't analyse which posts you linger on, which friends you scroll past, or when you open the app.
- No data sold. Your content and identifiers are never sold, licensed, or shared with third parties for marketing.
- No raw phone numbers. If you opt in to contact-matching, phone numbers are SHA-256 hashedon your device before anything leaves your phone. We never see the underlying number.
- No raw contact list. If you grant Contacts access, the app reads your contacts only to hash their emails and phone numbers locally. We do not upload names, addresses, notes, or any other contact field.
What we do collect
Your account
Yenz supports two sign-in methods, and what we store depends on which one you use:
- Sign in with Apple. Apple sends us a stable, opaque identifier (the Apple user ID) and, if you allow it, the name on your Apple ID. If you opt to share your email (Apple gives you a one-tap option to either share your real address or a private relay address), Apple forwards that address to us and we store it on your account row alongside the Apple user ID. We use it solely to recover your account if you ever switch devices and lose your Apple sign-in credential. We do not email you marketing, we do not display your email in the app, and we do not share it with anyone.
- Email + 6-digit passcode. If you sign in with your email instead of Apple, we store your email address on your account row and send you a one-time 6-digit code each time you sign in on a new device. Codes expire after a short window. We do not store passwords because there are none.
Either way, we also store the username you choose and (optionally) a display name. There's no profile photo on our servers, no bio database, and no address.
Hashed contact identifiers (only if you opt in)
If you tap Find friends from your contacts, the app reads your iPhone Contacts on-device, computes SHA-256 hashes of each email address and phone number locally, and uploads only the hashes for matching. The server compares those hashes against discoverable Yenz users to suggest people you may already know, and does not store your uploaded address-book hashes as a contact database. We never see your contacts' raw emails, phone numbers, names, or any other contact field. You can revoke Contacts access at any time in iOS Settings, and you can turn off Discoverable by contacts in Yenz Settings so friends cannot find you through their contacts.
Your posts, comments, and reactions
When you post a photo, video, or text update, we store it on our server so it can sync to your friends' devices. Each post is tied to your Apple user ID and the specific circle you picked — and is only delivered to members of that circle. Private reactions (hearts) are stored privately against your account so the author sees them; aggregate counts are never shown publicly.
Photos and videos you share
Media you attach to a post is uploaded from your phone to our server and served back to your circle over HTTPS. We generate a thumbnail server-side for performance. We do not run face recognition, content classification, or any automated analysis on your media.
Push notification tokens
If you enable notifications, Apple issues us a push token for your device so we can deliver alerts when a friend posts in your circle or comments on your content. The token is tied to your account and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
Moderation signals
If you report a post or comment, or block a user, we store that action (reporter ID, target, reason, timestamp) so our moderation workflow can review it. Reports are only visible to us, not to other users.
Crash reports and diagnostics
If you opt in through iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymised crash logs and diagnostic data with us through App Store Connect. This data is not linked to your identity and is used solely to fix bugs.
How your data is stored
Account data, posts, comments, and media live on servers operated by Roundhouse Ads LLC (d/b/a Clarion Apps). Data is transmitted over TLS. We do not use third-party cloud-based advertising or analytics providers. Media is stored on disk and served through a private tunnel fronted by Cloudflare's edge — Cloudflare sees request metadata (IP, User-Agent) for routing purposes, governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Your app preferences (notification toggles, recap time, etc.) live in encrypted local storage on your iPhone and are never sent to our servers.
Who can see your content
- Posts are visible only to members of the circle you selected when creating the post.
- Reactions are visible only to you and the post author. No-one else sees a count.
- Comments are visible to everyone in the post's circle.
- Your username and display name are visible to people you've added to a circle, or who have added you.
Yenz includes in-app people suggestions to help signed-in users find people they may know. Suggestions can use mutual friends, shared circles or plans, shared app activity, and optional private contact matching. These suggestions are shown only inside Yenz; Yenz has no public web profile pages, and user profiles are not indexed by search engines.
Circles and shared content
Circles are private groups you define (e.g. close friends, family, book club). Membership is visible only to you and the people in the circle. Adding someone to a circle does not notify anyone else. Leaving or removing someone from a circle immediately revokes their access to future posts in that circle; previously delivered posts remain on their device until the author deletes them.
Reports, blocks, and moderation
You can report any post or comment, and block any user, directly from the app. Reports go to a human moderator at Roundhouse Ads LLC (d/b/a Clarion Apps). We may remove content that violates our Terms of Service, and in egregious cases may suspend or delete accounts. Blocking someone immediately hides their content from your feed and prevents them from commenting on your posts.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Yenz account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your user row, posts, comments, reactions, and uploaded media are removed from our servers. Push tokens are revoked. We retain only the anonymised audit log necessary to prove that a deletion request was honoured, which is purged within 30 days.
If for any reason you can't delete through the app, email info@clarionapps.com from the Apple ID you signed up with and we'll do it for you.
Apple's Privacy Manifest (Data Types we declare)
In compliance with Apple's App Store privacy requirements, Yenz declares the following categories in its Privacy Manifest:
- User ID — linked to your account. Used for app functionality only. Not used for tracking.
- Email Address — linked to your account. Used for app functionality (account sign-in and recovery) only. Not used for tracking.
- Name — linked to your account (the display name you chose). Used for app functionality only. Not used for tracking.
- Contacts (hashed identifiers, opt-in) — linked to your account when you enable contact-matching. Only SHA-256 hashes are uploaded; raw contacts never leave your device. Used for app functionality (friend suggestions) only. Not used for tracking.
- Photos or Videos — linked to your account (your own posts). Used for app functionality only. Not used for tracking.
- Other User Content — linked to your account (captions, comments). Used for app functionality only. Not used for tracking.
Yenz declares NSPrivacyTracking = false. We do not track users across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Third-party services
Yenz relies on a small set of Apple services and our own backend:
- Sign in with Apple — authentication. Governed by Apple's Sign in with Apple terms.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — for delivering notifications to your device.
- App Store Connect Analytics — Apple's aggregated install and crash metrics (opt-in through iOS Settings).
- Cloudflare — network routing for our API.
Yenz does not use Google, Meta, TikTok, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Segment, or any other analytics or ad provider.
Children
Yenz is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created a Yenz account, email us and we will remove the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (EU/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA/CPRA), you have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app (Settings → Account). For anything else, email info@clarionapps.com from your signed-up Apple ID and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if how Yenz handles data changes. The "Last updated" date at the top will change accordingly. Material changes will be announced in-app.
